How to Build High-Performance Teams

Updated: Sep 29

Research found that High-Performance Teams can be built in a variety of different ways. For example, High-Performance Teams can be built through goals alignment, by enhancing entrepreneurial orientation behaviours, establishing a supportive environment, meeting certain team conditions, enhancing communication and performance feedback, improving team composition, enhancing team safety and trust, and launching team development interventions. However, most researchers agree that the most important factor that can help the development of High-Performance Teams is leadership.

In fact, leadership is broadly acknowledged across both academic research and industry practice as the foremost driver of enhanced team and organisational performance.

However, leadership is a complex phenomenon that has been studied extensively in previous research. For example, previous researchers defined leadership in more than 650 different ways and classified it in more than 65 different models. Nevertheless, there is consensus regarding the fact that leadership is a process that involves influencing groups of individuals towards the achievement of common goals.
